Nature's Dentist®

A Dental-care vitamin and mineral supplement for cats and dogs.

Nature's Dentist photo Nature's Dentist is a flavourful powder that when sprinkled onto pet food will remove plaque and whiten teeth, while freshening breath and eliminating mouth odour. More than 80% of pets over three years old have periodontal disease. The daily use of Nature's Dentist is critical factor to ensure that pets live long and healthy lives.

Nature's Dentist can be introduced to pets of any age, working as a proactive prevention or in reaction to the signs of gingivitis or periodontal disease. Nature's Dentist is designed for use between veterinarian dental cleanings, to promote oral health and decrease the incidence of gingivitis and the more serious, periodontal disease.

Nature's Dentist is uniquely formulated with a combination of synergistic ingredients that help remove plaque and reduce bacteria that cause bad breath, but that do not destroy digestive flora, stain teeth or have a bitter, unacceptable taste. Harmful organisms that grow from bacterial toxins are reduced, thus establishing a fresher and healthier oral cavity.

Good oral health prevents gingivitis, which is inflammation of the gum tissue. When a pet is suffering from gingivitis, their gums will be irritated and swollen due to a plaque or calculus (tartar) buildup along the gumline. Their gums may be sore, bleed easily and appear puffy, soft and swollen. Bone structure is lost around their teeth at this stage of gum disease. Blood is one of the earliest and most common signs of gingivitis. If these warning signs are ignored, gingivitis may progress to periodontitis disease.

Periodontitis disease occurs when bacteria from the teeth and gums enter the bloodstream and travels to infect the lungs, heart, kidneys and liver. Parts of the nervous system may also be affected. Although these infections are usually treatable when caught at an early stage, they can cause serious damage to these organs and, if not caught in time, may cause death.

Unfortunately, periodontitis is irreversible, but its progression can be slowed down through good oral hygiene practice including the daily usage of Nature's Dentist.

It's important to note that diabetic pets may be at greater risk of developing periodontal disease. Also at risk are small dog breeds, such as Pekingese and Shihtzu. Experts say these breeds are more likely to develop tooth problems because their teeth are crowded into small mouths.

Nature's Dentist comes in a handy shaker that you sprinkle on your pet's food. Pets love the flavour no more than 1 gram per meal is required.

Zinc ascorbate in combination with sulfur amino acid work together to repair tissue and stop permeability of the tissue to macromolecular materials such as bacterial toxins. When you repair that tissue, instead of degrading it, there is less dead tissue substrate to support the growth of proteolytic bacteria. Therefore, you lower the level of harmful organisms. This helps interrupt the deposition of plaque significantly. Additionally, the zinc ascorbate will permeate plaque and oxidize the anaerobic bacteria. This helps remove plaque and reduce proteolytic enzymes (another source of halitosis).

Safe for daily home oral care of pets, it is ideal since it does not destroy all the digestive flora, stain teeth, or taste bitter with proper use. Remember zinc ascorbate was developed to stimulate collagen (foster gingival tissue recovery) whereas chlorhexidine is a disinfectant.

What Is The Significance Of Zinc Ascorbate?

Zinc Ascorbate can typically be used as the disinfectant, chlorhexidine and/or offer zinc ascorbate in a significantly smaller ingredient percentage than you find in Nature's Dentist. Chlorhexidine does not create a biological difference in the mouth, similar to zinc ascorbate. Zinc Ascorbate is the second ingredient in the Nature's Dentist formulation. It was developed to stimulate collagen (foster gingival tissue recovery) whereas, Zinc ascorbate, in combination with sulfur amino acids work together to repair tissue and stop permeability of the tissue to macromolecular materials, such as bacterial toxins.
